namelijk bij besmetting met hoog-risico HPV-types, kunnen er kleine letsels op de baarmoederhals ontstaan. De ernst van deze letsels hangt af van het aantal cellen en de plek waar deze cellen zich op een abnormale manier ontwikkelen in het slijmvlies (ge\u00efnfecteerde cellen).<br>De meeste van deze letsels verdwijnen vanzelf, terwijl anderen stabiel blijven of evolueren tot voorlopers van kanker (afwijkende cellen). Jaarlijks zijn er in Belgi\u00eb ruim 8.000 vrouwen die dergelijke letsels ontwikkelen\u2075. Gelukkig zal slechts een klein aantal daarvan zich tijdens een proces van meerdere jaren tot kanker ontwikkelen. Desalniettemin zijn er jaarlijks in Belgi\u00eb ongeveer 600 vrouwen bij wie er effectief baarmoederhalskanker wordt vastgesteld.\u2077<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n ontwikkelen tot vagina- of vulvakanker.<br>Anus- en peniskanker worden vaak veroorzaakt door een HPV-infectie, maar het betreft hier zeldzamere vormen van kanker.<br>Recente gegevens tonen aan dat hoofd- en halskanker ook het gevolg kan zijn van een HPV-infectie en wordt overgedragen via orale seksuele contacten bij zowel vrouwen als mannen.<\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n symptomen van genitale wratten is 6 weken of langer. In functie van de omvang en de ernst kan men overgaan tot medische behandelingen of chirurgische ingrepen die pijnlijk zijn en de terugkeer absoluut niet uitsluiten. In 25 tot 67% van de gevallen komen de wratten binnen de 3 maanden na behandeling terug!\u00b3<br>Gelukkig kunnen deze onaangename wratten ook soms spontaan verminderen of verdwijnen.<br>Jaarlijks
